Wimbledon may have been cancelled for the first time since the Second World War, but lockdown was a winner for less professional players.
The number of people playing tennis has risen sharply since restrictions were eased. Between May and July, court bookings in parks and public spaces were up by 372% on a year earlier, according to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
One of the biggest increases was in Leeds, where bookings rose 900%, from 350 a week in May 2019 to 3,500 a week this year.
Traditional tennis clubs across the country have also seen a rush of new members, according to the LTA.
