A 9-hole disc golf course is now open for public use at Lawson Park in Busti.
On June 1, Craig Rodgers III approached the town board with a proposal to add a course to the park, which would include marked tee boxes and pins made of PVC pipe, which are struck with a disc to complete a hole.
A professionally-sponsored disc golf player, Rodgers helped to create and design the course now in place at Edinboro University, and was optimistic that adding a course in Busti would allow for leagues and tournaments to be held in the area.
“I believe that is the green,” Busti Highway Worker Randy Milks said while pointing towards a PVC pin. “I’ve seen several people down here playing it already in the short time it has been in. Anything to get people outside is a win in my book. Especially with the computer age and cell phones (and) all this stuff, any time you can get your kids outside is a good thing. There’s no two ways about it.”
Lawson Park also features a newly renovated playground, and town crews recently replaced the sand in the volleyball court as well.
“You’ve got to have your parks,” Milks said. “This park has been here. When I was a young kid I played in it, all of us have, so it is a good thing to keep people interested at that age. That is a bonus.”
