The coronavirus pandemic might be putting in-person NFL Draft visits on hold, but it’s not stopping the Patriots from interviewing college players they might select next month.
On Friday, it was reported that the Pats had FaceTimed Boise State offensive tackle Ezra Cleveland for a pre-draft interview. Now, DraftWire’s Justin Melo reports New England has held FaceTime visits with three other prospects — LSU guard Damien Lewis and Michigan State defensive linemen Kenny Willekes and Raequan Williams.
Lewis (No. 121), Willekes (No. 140) and Williams (No. 172) are all in the same range on CBS Sports’ rankings of top 2020 draft prospects and each player seems likely to be selected on Day 2 or 3 of the draft. Lewis — regarded as the best of the trio — could be taken as early as the third round.
New England will likely hold dozens of calls with potential draftees in the coming weeks. Day 1 of the NFL Draft is still scheduled for April 23.
